Garmin launched the new Varia RCT716 bicycle camera to enhance safety and security when passing cars, buses and trucks on the road.
The American company explained that the new camera includes a car warning function and a backlight, and it is water-resistant according to the protection class IPX7.
The camera comes with a length of 11 cm and a weight of 150 grams, and it can be installed in the seat post without the need for any tools.
The new camera also features an automatic accident recognition function; In an emergency, the camera records videos of the accident before and after, similar to the dashcam in cars.
Videos are recorded in Full HD (1080p) or HD (720p), and the recording can be done continuously or when the radar detects a vehicle approaching the bike.
The radar recognition function operates up to 140 meters back, and audio and visual alerts appear on any computer connected to the Garmin bike or wearable equipment. In addition, alerts can be received on any smartphone with the Garmin Varia app.
The app can also be used to align the camera by streaming video, and to send saved recordings to the camera's SD memory card or smartphone.
Garmin announced that the price of the new Varia RCT716 camera is $400, and Garmin is also offering a radar with backlight for $200.
